From “It Runs in the Family” to Hope Through Change
📅 April 24  ⏰ 12:00 – 2:00 PM Central Time
Understand how genes, lifestyle, and environment shape mental health—and what you can actually do about it.
We’ve all heard: “It runs in the family.”
But genetics aren’t destiny.
Emerging research in epigenetics shows that lifestyle and environmental factors can influence how genes are expressed—impacting mood, behavior, and overall mental health.
This workshop introduces clinicians to epigenetics—the study of how lifestyle and environment influence gene expression. You’ll explore how genetic variations and daily habits interact to impact neurotransmitters, detoxification, and emotional regulation, while learning practical ways to apply this knowledge in clinical practice.
In this 2-hour workshop, you’ll learn how to:
Describe the relationship between genetics, epigenetics, and mental health.
Identify common gene variations (MTHFR, COMT, MTRR, DAO) and their potential influence on mood and behavior.
Explain lifestyle factors that influence gene expression including diet, stress, sleep, toxins, and exercise.
Recognize patterns where biological or metabolic factors may contribute to mental health symptoms.
