Exploring Sexuality

This course gives mental health professionals the knowledge and practical tools to confidently work with LGBTQIA2S+ clients while navigating evolving legal, ethical, cultural, and clinical considerations.

You’ll gain the ability to:

• Build a clear foundation in sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, and theories of human sexuality

• Understand how historical psychiatric practices and SOGICE have shaped the mental-health landscape for LGBTQIA2S+ individuals

• Recognize systemic health disparities and mental-health risks affecting LGBTQIA2S+ populations

• Distinguish constitutional speech protections from the independent responsibilities of state licensing boards and professional ethical standards

• Identify and manage personal bias while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries

• Apply ACA ethical standards related to self-bias, referrals, and continuity of care

• Put affirmative clinical principles into practice through safety planning, unconditional positive regard, and respect for client autonomy
